A Hearing Impaired Unit, attached to a mainstream Primary School, requires a highly motivated Teacher of the Deaf. The unit, in the new Stratford City district, is within easy walking distance from the main rail station which has excellent underground and overland rail links. The resourced provision, within the unit, is there to support both academically and pastorally up to 15 pupils with moderate, severe or profound hearing loss.
The ideal candidate must be able to teach at KS1 and KS2 and possess BSL ( British Sign language ) Level 2, as the role requires a high level of communicative competence. In this position you will be teaching pupils individually and within small groups. Your main role, within the unit, will be to develop the speech and language of the child through a relaxed conversational style. The aim is to allow the pupils to communicate naturally and therefore interact socially and academically with their mainstream peers.
In this role you will be supported by a Specialist Teaching assistant, an Advanced Communicator and by mainstream staff where necessary. The H.I. Team, in which you will play a pivotal role, all work cohesively towards building our pupils confidence, social interaction and personal development to give them a platform in which to succeed in life and fulfil their potential.
