We are currently recruiting for a Special Needs Teaching Assistant for a secondary school in the Stockport area. The successful Special Needs Teaching Assistant will work on a one to one basis with a year 8 pupil who has Aspergers. You will be supporting the pupil in all core subjects, therefore a good understanding of English, Maths and Science is essential. As a Special Needs Teaching Assistant, your job is to enhance and enrich the learning of the pupil in your care. You will work hard to ensure the pupil is constantly engaged with an overall aim of improving their behaviour and their subject knowledge. You will ensure the pupil stays on task with all work and where required challenge them to deliver when they are struggling. The ability to communicate clearly is essential, as is the need to explain the process behind problem solving in subjects without necessarily giving answers. The successful Special Needs Teaching Assistant must also be committed as Aspergers pupils rely on a set routine. We are looking for a Special Needs Teaching Assistant who not only has recent and relevant experience but who has good knowledge and understanding of what it takes to work with challenging Special Needs pupils. It is imperative that the successful Special Needs teaching assistant is patient and caring and a qualification from the Special Needs Teaching Assistant arena would be highly desirable (such as NVQ level 2 or 3) Graduates of Special Needs based courses are also highly sought after.

Essential:

  • Minimum of 3 months experience of working with pupils within the last 2 years
  • Ability to engage with pupils of varying ages and abilities
  • Experience of working on a one to one basis with pupils
  • Excellent behaviour management skills
  • A flexible, adaptable approach to work
